My Infant Optics DXR-5 2.4 ghz Digital Video Baby Monitor Review

The Infant Optics DXR-5 baby monitor has received many rave reviews over the last couple of months. I looked through hundreds of these, so you don’t have to.

Here is the bottom line on this monitor.

Is the Infant Optics DXR-5 all it is said to be?

Let me start off by saying that a the time of writing this post, this product has received more than 2500 reviews on Amazon. That is an incredible number of reviews. Most items don’t get anywhere close to that number of reviews. In fact, there are only 4 other baby monitors that got more than 1000 reviews, and none of them are close to 2000 reviews.

Of those 2500+ reviews, this baby monitor has received more than 1300 five star reviews. That is an unbelievable number. With all that said, let’s get into the details of why this monitor might, or might not, be right for you.

I could easily bore you with numbers that are measured in gigahertz, and terms like Automatic Frequency Hopping System. I am going to be a little different than the normal reviewer.

Let me rather give you some information that I gleaned from the hundreds of reviews I pored over so you don’t have to.

Great picture quality

This unit comes with a 2.4 inch screen that displays in your beautiful baby in glorious colour (not a grainy black and white picture!). You won’t have any problems seeing your little one on this ample screen, and the detail will surprise you. After all the number one reason for buying a video monitor, is to be able to watch your child.

Users reviewing this product has been full of praise for this feature. And if your child does prefer to have night light, the night vision adapts to the amount of light in the room. It won’t completely distort like some cheaper options.

Listening to baby

The Infant Optics DXR-5 has no interference. This might not sound like a benefit, but trust me, with a house filled with cellphones, laptops and other electronic gadgets, you will appreciate this more than you think.

The audio is reported to be very clear, and with no interference you won’t miss a single sound. And if you don’t necessarily want to hear every breath, you can set the sensitivity so that you only hear baby when he or she needs you.

Some nice touches

The smart people over at Infant Optics really thought of everything with this unit. You even get some mounting screws, and a portable vertical stand for when you are travelling. Believe me, my patience has been tested when sleeping over at the in-laws trying to get the monitor just right on a tower of pillows, or on a chair next to the camping cot. That portable stand is a great addition, and shows how much thought was put into this product.

The unit is also easy to setup, with only three steps requiring your attention. Three steps might not sound that easy, but it really is a case of plugging the adapter in to the camera and monitor units, and then switching both on. If my mother-in-law can do it, you can too.

I have used a number of models from different suppliers, but the Infant Optics DXR-5 remains my favourite. It has alot going for it, including some very clear video, no interference.
